November 29 - December 5

This week was the week of our Fashion Show Viewing Party!!!!!

Monday we started out with a morning meeting at Starbucks to go over all of our plans for the week. We lined out who had what responsibility and a timeline for the next 24 hours. It was a great experience splitting up the work and trusting that your work parter will do what is expected from them. After our meeting I went to Party Galaxy to get the decorations, plates, cups and utensils. Then to Target to order balloons for our party. I also confirmed our reservation to use our venue. After I ran errands, I created a Facebook event for our party, and invited all the people we had already invited. It was my first time to create a Facebook event, and it was a great learning experience regarding social media. I thought the Facebook event would be a great reminder about the event, as well as the location and time.

Tuesday was the big day! I went to Walmart and bought the food and drinks we needed for the party. I also order a platter of Chick-fil-a nuggets for the party. Then I headed to Kappa Hall to start setting up for the event. I had to set up over 60 chairs and get the tables set up as well. After I had Kappa Hall initially set up, I went to pick up the chick-fil-a platter, as well as many bags of ice. I returned and finished setting up the food and the smaller decorations. We opened the doors at 8:00 and the party lasted until 10:00. The party was a huge success! We had almost 50 girls attend, we gave away raffle drawings during each commercial break and I think everyone had a great time! After the show everyone stayed around to talk for a while, and then we had to clean up and put up all the chairs. Tuesday was such a long day, but it was such a great feeling to know that all our hard work had paid off! It was the first time I was 100% in charge of planning such a large event and it was an amazing learning experience! It was also SO fun!

Later on in the week I uploaded pictures and emailed back and forth with Caroline about how great our viewing party turned out!

Happy Thanksgiving from PINK by Victoria Secret!!!!!!!

November 15 - November 21

Early this week I worked on the different recaps we were doing for our Happy Project. The first recap I put together was a power point presentation with pictures, captions, summaries and our donation numbers. After I uploaded all the pictures I had taken throughout the duration on our clothing drive, I resized the images and then cropped them. Cropping and resizing the pictures wasn't hard but, it was definitely a time consuming process. I carefully chose what pictures to use, and created the slide show around the pictures. After several hours of changing and rearranging, I finally finished the slide show and emailed it to our boss Caroline.

On Tuesday, I put together an essay as a recap of our Happy Project. I just wrote out all that we did to make our project successful, the challenges we were faced with, our final outcome and what I would change or do differently the next time I planned a philanthropy event. After I finished the essay, I also emailed it to Caroline for her to show to the marketers at Victoria Secret. Sharing our recaps allowed for Caroline to verify our work on campus as VS Pink Interns.

On Thursday, I put all our receipts together and mailed them to Caroline for her to have as a verification of our donation numbers. Thursday afternoon Shay and I met to finalize plans for our fashion show viewing party. Since the viewing party was right after Thanksgiving break, we really wanted to make sure we had all our plans outlined and our budget planned out. For food we decided the best idea would be to get vegetable and fruit trays, cupcakes and cookies, and chick-fil-a nuggets. We ordered all that we could in advance, and wrote down prices and where to get the things we couldn't pre-order. We also budgeted in cups, plates, napkins and utensils. From there we decided how much of our left-over budget we should spend on prizes and how much we should spend on decorations. It was a great experience working with a budget and really searching for the lowest possible cost on different items. We set a very detailed outline for our party so that when we returned from Thanksgiving break it wouldn't be overwhelming.

On the weekend, Shay and I both contacted our sororities about the event. We were hoping that those close to us would be especially supportive. We ensured that our fashion show viewing party invite would be printed in the weekly newsletters, as well as announced at chapter meetings. I also created a Facebook event and invited as many girls as I could. We were really doing everything we could to make sure we had a lot of people attend. It was really great practice and experience working with social media and traditional media tools to get the word out about our party. Event promotion is a huge part of public relations, and I was able to get experience planning my very first event!

Food and Friends Shelter
Sorting Clothes at the Shelter

This week was the sprint finish to the end of our Happy Project clothing drive. Early on in the week I had a phone conference with Caroline to discuss our progress with our project. She was really enthusiastic with all that we were able to accomplish, and with the fact that we were really close to our goal of 2,000 donations.

Wednesday morning I devoted to collecting, sorting, counting and delivering the clothes to the shelter. The process I was quite familiar with at this point still took a long time. It was time-consuming to go by all of our donation locations, and the bags and boxes of clothes were really heavy! It was a task that was much easier done with two people, but unfortunately I had to work alone on Wednesday. Dropping off the clothes at the shelter, however, made all the hard work worth it! At first I was really skeptical to go to the shelter by myself, because being around all of the homeless people in the part of Norman that the shelter is located was really out of my comfort zone. But the more thought I put into it, and the more I went to the shelter, I realized it was a really great reminder that there are people in need all over the world. I too frequently get caught up in my own life, and living in my "college bubble", that visiting to the shelter was a really great reality check.

Wednesday after noon, I met with Shay. We started to really think about our Fashion Show viewing party. Since we already had our location set, we just brainstormed on what to do for food, prizes and giveaways, music and decorations. While we were brainstorming ideas, we were also checking prizes on the internet. We only had a few hundred dollars to spend on the viewing party and it was surprising how expensive food and decorations could be. We spent time working out our budget and deciding how we were going to allocate our money.

Friday was the last day to pick up clothes from the donation spots. I repeated the collection process and brought the last batch of donations to the shelter. We exceeded our goal of 2,000 items and were able to collect 2,007!!!! It was such a great feeling to know that we were able to meet our goal. Everyone at the shelter was so thankful for all that we had done and knowing that we were able to help that many people was such an awesome feeling!

Saturday I spent cleaning up after our project. I went to all of the donation stations to pick up the empty boxes. I also took down all the flyers that we had posted on campus. Lastly, I took the cardboard boxes to a recycle center. It was a great feeling to finally be done with our Happy Project.

Sorting and counting donations
My car loaded down!
Picking up donations at the Greek houses!

This week was the heart of our clothing drive, so we really did what we could to promote the drive and collect as many donations as possible. I took time to go to each of the greek houses where we had set boxes, and remind them of our project and what we were trying to do for the community. I especially promoted the drive at my own sorority house.

I put together a short press release about the project to email out to all of the greek houses. It was great practice writing a press release, and I really took time to follow the format that I had previously learned in my "Writing for Mass Media" class. I went to my sorority advisors and presented the press release I had written, along with a plan to increase the amount of donations we were receiving. My plan was simple. For girls in my sorority, an absence would be removed from their attendance if they brought in 5 or more articles of clothing to donate. I presented the plan to my entire chapter at our chapter meeting that week. Everyone was really excited to help!

On Tuesday I went around to all of the houses to pick up their donations for the week. We had more donations turned in than the previous week, and we were really feeling optimistic about our project! It took a while to collect all the clothes and to sort them out and count them. At my own sorority house it took an especially long time, because I had to record the names of the people who donated, as well as sort and count the donations. I bagged the donations up and loaded them into my car to take to the shelter. It was a really great experience for me to use my problem-solving skills to work out a way to increase the amount of donations we would receive. It was a great feeling to think out the plan, create a press release, present the plan, and then have it turn out to be a great success!

Throughout the week, I had been in constant communication with our boss, Caroline, via email. I was keeping her updated with our efforts, as well as the results of our clothing drive. On Wednesday we had a conference call. I talked with Caroline about how I felt our progress was going, as well as how much help I was or wasn't receiving from the other OU VS intern. Caroline was really supportive, and was really helpful in giving other ideas we could use to get clothing donations.

As a further effort to collect more clothing donations, I called, texted, and emailed more than twenty of my friends that weren't affiliated with a Greek House. On Thursday evening, I went around Norman to collect the donations from my friends. They were all so helpful, and excited to be able to clean out their closets. Driving around to the different houses and apartment complexes took a long time, but it was definitely worth it! I collected almost 300 donations on Thursday night alone!

On Sunday, Shay and I went to the multi-cultural sorority and fraternity meetings to collect donations from them. Since they don't have houses on campus, there was no where for us to set up a collection box. So we emailed them earlier in the week to ask if we could come to their meetings to collect clothes. The email told them about the project, and asked them to bring donations to the upcoming meeting. It was a really great experience to speak to a different group of people and they were really helpful with our project! The different student groups donated almost 400 more articles of clothing just on Sunday night. Our donation numbers were really increasing rapidly!

October 25 - October 31

This week we continued to work on our Happy Project. On Monday, I received a check from the Victoria Secret Headquarters and I went to cash it, so we would have a budget to work with for the remainder of our Happy Project and for our Victoria Secret Fashion Show Viewing Party. I had trouble cashing the check because there are no branches of the bank that I use for my personal use in Oklahoma. I had to go to the bank from where the check was issued. They required I had two forms of Identification and the whole process took almost an hour. Wednesday I met with Shay, and we started to sort the first round of all of our donations. We went to the different houses where we had set the boxes to collect the donations they had gathered thus far. We were a little disappointed with our first round of donations, but it was only the first of our three week project. We tried our hardest to remain optimistic. After we counted and sorted the clothes, we bagged them up to take them to the shelter.

Thursday I filled out surveys online for the Victoria Secret merchandisers. They are coming out with a new fragrance collection, so I answered questions to help them decide what they should name the new collection. I also filled out surveys to help them decide what the packaging should look like. The new collection will be released next August, right before back-to-school shopping begins. I love filling out the surveys and questionnaires on the VS Pink Intern website. The questions are fun, and it's an exciting feeling to know that I'm helping determine what the next Victoria Secret merchandise will be. I also like scanning the Victoria Secret Intern website to see what the other interns at the other colleges are up to. It's great to share ideas and to receive feedback from our peers.

On Friday, I tried to brainstorm other ideas for different ways that we would be able to get clothing donations. I contacted the owner of Plato's Closet in Oklahoma City. Plato's Closet is a place where you can sell your new or gently used clothes, and then they resell the clothes. However, they only take clothes in good condition and that are in season. So, a lot of the time people bring clothes to sell but Plato's closet won't take them. We thought it would be a great idea to set a table outside of the local Plato's closet branch. We faced a problem because the Plato's Closet manager said that we had to get permission from the owner of the property. I spent almost half an hour unsuccessfully trying to get in touch with the property owner. The whole process was really frustrating and I was never able to get permission.

On Saturday, I bagged all of the collections that we had collected thus far and took them to the local Norman shelter that we decided to support. The shelter is called Food and Friends. We received a receipt from a worker at the shelter so we can keep records of all the clothes that we donate.

Happy Project Flyer

Happy Project Boxes

This week we really focused on getting things ready for our "Happy Project" clothing drive. On Monday, I went to get all of the boxes for the donations to be put in. We just got simple cardboard boxes from a local U-Haul store. I also designed the flyers that we would put around campus and on the donation boxes. I took time to decide what would be eye-catching, simple and would give all of the needed information. On Tuesday, I went to a local printing shop and had many copies of the flyers made. I had some trouble because I designed the flyer on a Mac and the computers at the printing shop were Windows. With a little extra effort and some assistance from a man who worked there, we were able to figure out a way to print out the flyers. I waited at the printing shop for the flyers, to ensure they came out just the way I wanted them to. On Wednesday I assembled all of the boxes and attached flyers to the outside. Also on Wednesday, I emailed back and forth with the chapter presidents of all of the Greek houses on campus. We arranged times for Shay and I to come by and speak to the chapters about our project. Everyone was really eager to help us with our efforts! On Thursday I dropped off boxes at two different sorority houses that wanted to give donations, but didn't find it necessary for us to come and speak to their chapters. On Sunday, I went to four different chapter meetings to speak about our project and drop off the boxes for the donations. It took all evening to drive to the different locations and give our speeches, but it was necessary to speak to the chapters to spread the word about our project. It was a little bit nerve-racking to speak at the first chapter, but after the first speech I gave, I was able to warm up and the rest of the chapters I spoke at were fun and I was really able to relax. We set times and dates to go by each of the houses to pick up donations, and let everyone know that the last day to drop off clothing was November 12.

Monday 3:00 - 5:00 (2 hours)
Tuesday 4:00 - 5:00 (1 hour)

October 11 - October 17

This week we have been working really had on getting the finals of our Happy Project together. We were never able to work anything out with Homecoming. Our final negotiation was that the Homecoming Exec would try and advertise and support our project but they couldn't make any supportive promises. We decided it would be best to just try another route to get students involved with our project. The Happy Project lasts until November 12, and Homecoming is just one week. We were worried if it was connected too much to Homecoming that students would stop getting involved with it. We have decided to just send an email to the president of over 20 student groups on campus. Shay is in charge of composing and sending the emails. We hope to have a large response and are offering to bring by a container for the clothes, and we are also asking to come speak at the group meetings to spread the word about the project. We are keeping our fingers crossed for support from the student groups here at Oklahoma. We have been talking with those who work at Food and Friends and they are so excited for our drive to start!

This week I also had my In-store shadow experience at the nearest Victoria Secret store. The shadow experience was several hours and it was great how much I was able to learn about the brand that I am promoting on my campus. The workers at the VS store weren't exactly sure how to react around me at first, since this is the firs time the store had done a shadow experience. It didn't take long for the girls to warm up to me and it ended up being a lot of fun. A lot of times people thought I was a store clerk so I had to redirect many questions, but other than that everything went great! I spent an hour or so before my in-store experience preparing by looking at the logistics of the store I was visiting and researching what the girls at VS headquarters wanted me to get out of the visit. There were specific questions and a survey that they wanted me to answer after my experience so I spent some time familiarizing myself with the questions and the survey details. Overall, the in-store shadow experience was absolutely awesome! It was really good for me to be able to connect the whole aspect of building a brand image. I work very hard at promoting the VS PINK brand on campus, so it was great to see the other side and to see the merchandise actually sell. It reminded me of why we do what we do. It was really rewarding!

This week we had a home game so I was faced with taking more STYLE U Pics. I've been uploading the pictures to the VS PINK Intern website and it has been really interesting in seeing the different poses and styles that the other interns across the nation are using. Taking the pictures is always a lot of fun and the girls around campus are always really supportive. It's sometimes awkward to ask them if I can take their picture, but after they learn why, they are typically very flattered.

I've spent some time putting together some pictures and details of the venue we will be using for the VS Fashion Show viewing party to send to headquarters so they can further their plans for the trunk show. We are using the Kappa Hall building owned by the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. The building is large enough and a great location on campus.

Surveys, blogs, and communication continues on the Intern website, like always.

October 4 - October 10

This week we continued to work on the progression of our Happy Project. We have had some trouble getting the Homecoming Staff on board with supporting our project. We've sent several different emails to those in student life, as well as those who are in charge of Homecoming, but we haven't been able to make much head-way. The traditions of homecoming are very set and it hasn't been easy to get those in charge to adapt to the idea of incorporating a new philanthropy. Shay and I have met and spoken over the phone many times, trying to figure out a back-up plan. We are trying to figure out how we can get the most support for our clothing drive. We know that if we can give students an incentive to donate clothes, we will have a much more successful drive. Shay and I have been busy brainstorming with new ideas that we can progress with later on this month.

We have also spent a significant amount of time this week communicating with the shelter where we are going to be donating all of the clothes that we collect to. The shelter is called Food and Friends, and it's a great place in Norman where people can go and get a hot meal and a change of clothes if needed. I'm really excited to work with Food and Friends and to give back to the Norman community. I'm so excited!

Planning philanthropy events, and trying to get people involved with donations and support are activities that many PR professionals will have to deal with. It's been a great learning experience to try and plan the Happy Project. I feel like i'm learning a lot of skills that I will be able to use later on in my PR career.

Also this week, I had a phone conference with Shay and 3 of the Victoria Secret merchandisers. It was my first phone conference with more than just 3 people. It was difficult to tell who was talking and it took some getting used to. There are definitely manners when it comes to phone conferences and it was a great learning experience. We talked about the details of the Victoria Secret Fashion Show Viewing Party that Shay and I will be hosting on November 30. Merchandisers from headquarters were wanting to attend our viewing party and host a trunk show to give a preview of new exclusive Victoria Secret PINK collections to Oklahoma students only. I'm so excited! It would be such a great opportunity if the trunk show was to work out. We spoke on the phone for a while discussing details and logistics of the show and the viewing party.

Like every week I spent some time on the Victoria Secret Intern website. I took time reading the blogs that the other Campus Representatives have filled out, and I took time getting accustomed to the homepage where we can adjust our budget. I filled out the surveys for the week, and took time learning what Victoria Secret Merchandisers were currently doing.

I have been spending a lot of time filing out PINK Nation membership forms for girls online. Each form takes about 5 minutes to complete, and I have over 150 forms to fill out. Typically, we carry around laptops and have the girls fill out the forms themselves. But, during some of our promotional events we faced technical difficulties so we just had the girls write down their information on a piece of paper and now Shay and I have been imputing the information into the computer. It's been a good lesson about being adaptable and knowing that technology does sometimes fail.

September 27 - October 3

On Monday of this week I went to the Kappa Kappa Gamma house and gave a presentation about the PINK brand. I was at the house for a while and was able to really interact with the girls. I was able to get almost 100 girls to sign up for Pink Nation. I also took lots of pictures of the girls and some of the freebees I had to give them. The pictures turned out great, and I uploaded them that night to the VS Pink Intern website so the VS managers could see some of the progress I was making here at OU. I've learned what an important part of public relations documenting everything is. The pictures of all the events we have are such an important feature. They show our employee as well as our public all the progress we have been making.
The week i've also been sending emails back and forth and talking on the phone with Caroline to try and figure out how we can make the Pink Collegiate Collection more popular here at OU. Some campuses respond better to the collection to others, and we've really had to work at promoting it here. I've learned the importance of communicating in the correct way to the correct audience. We've been doing a lot of work but for some reason none of it is connecting with the audience we want to be connecting with. Caroline and I have chatted several times trying to figure out how to target the audience specifically here in Oklahoma.
I've been continuing to blog and fill out surveys on the VS PINK Intern website. One of the Style U pictures that I took a couple weeks ago is featured on the Victoria Secret website! It's really exciting to see my hard work pay off. The VS Pink merchandisers have taken our pictures and put together a section which shows how girls are dressing for football games at different campuses around the nation.
Last, this weekend was OU/TX weekend in Dallas! On Saturday while I was at the game I took several different pictures for this week's Style U section. I can't wait to see if any of these pictures are selected to be featured on the website. Sunday, I uploaded the pictures.

September 20 - September 26

This week Shay and I have been working on getting our philanthropy project together. Our "Happy Project", as we've been told to call it, is a clothing drive for a local Norman shelter. We've been communicating with VS headquarters trying to figure out exactly what shelter we're going to donate our clothes too. We've contacted several different shelters and organizations, and we've been trying to iron out all the details. Ideally, we'd like to incorporate our Happy Project into this year's Homecoming festivities. We've been trying to contact the head of this year's Homecoming, but it's been difficult. We also have been in contact Student Life since Homecoming is an OU sponsored event. This week I also have been working on transferring girls' information from the forms they filled out by hand to the Pink Nation sign up online form. Transferring the information isn't difficult, it's just time consuming and tedious. I've continued with surveys and blogs on the VS PINK Intern website, just like the other weeks. A huge part of this internship is being a part of focus groups and helping VS merchandisers come up with new and innovative ideas for the new VS PINK collections. Next week we have more promotional events with different student groups. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and getting more girls to sign up for Pink Nation. This week i've learned the importance of following up. We have had several shelters and individuals not respond to our emails. I have gotten experience with how to follow up with people tactfully, and not in an annoying way.

September 13- September 19

This week was really hectic! We've been organizing promotional events with the sorority houses here at OU. We set up times to go promote VS PINK with 4 different houses for the week, but only 3 confirmed with us when we sent out confirmation emails the day before the events.
On Monday and Tuesday we went to the Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Delta Delta and Alpha Chi Omega sorority houses. We set up laptops and helped the girls join "Pink Nation." We also had free giveaways for the girls as encouragement to sign up for Pink Nation. While the girls were using the laptops or giving us their information we just talked to them about the brand and what the brand stands for. It was great just being able to interact with the different types of girls and promote the VS PINK brand. We took pictures at the different events and uploaded them onto the VS PINK Intern website, to show the VS employees our work here on campus.
We learned the importance of following up, and confirming appointments. We also learned how easy it is to just talk to people about the company you represent, if you're well prepared. Shay and I both are knowledgable about VS PINK and the Pink Nation membership program, and it really paid off. Girls had a lot of questions and it would of been embarrassing if we weren't well prepared.
This week I also blogged and filled out different surveys on VS PINK Intern website. The surveys were about specific Oklahoma merchandise that wasn't selling like the VS merchandisers had hoped it would of. I also sent emails back and forth with Caroline, with our first ideas for plans for the VS fashion show viewing party that Shay and I will be hosting later this semester.

September 6-September 12

The Monday this week was Labor Day, and it was a great three-day weekend. I wasn't super busy with my internship this week because we were mostly getting things ready for events next week. We are scheduled to go to four different sorority houses and give presentation describing and promoting Pink Nation. Shay did a great job of getting in touch with the presidents of the sororities and getting times set up.
Shay and I had several different long phone conversations getting the logistics for the promotional events ready. We discussed what time we would meet, the freebees we would give away, how we would go about getting girls to sign up, and what we would say when we got to the sorority houses.
I exchanged many emails with Caroline, the VS Pink employee who is in charge on the VS Pink internship program. Caroline sends us emails almost everyday updating us on new ways to get girls to sign up for Pink Nation, as well as new surveys that have come out and new Pink Nation deals to give as incentives to get girls to sign up. I also exchanged several different emails with the OU Homecoming chair in attempts to get our clothing drive to be a part of the homecoming activities. So far, things seem optimistic. With a university as large as Oklahoma, there were a lot of different people we needed to get to OK our collaboration.
I took the second round of STYLE U pictures this week. We played Florida State, and we knew it was going to be a huge game and a ton of fans were going to come out and support the Sooners. This was great for us, it gave us a ton of girls to choose from for the pictures and everyone was so excited for the game. This made our job so much more fun.
I've really enjoyed my work with VS so far. I've learned a lot of small communicational skills with internal and external publics. I've learned the importance of sending emails and communicating openly with those who are working with me. The help from Shay and Caroline has been so great and I wouldn't be able to handle all of the work without them. I've also learned through the STYLE U pictures that approaching people is so much easier if you can be optimistic and keep smiling. They will be so much more likely to assist in whatever you need.

August 30-September 5

This week Shay and I met on Wednesday afternoon for a while. We discussed many different things we have coming up. We tried to contact Housing & Food to see if we could set up a table outside of the dorm and cafeteria to promote the VS Pink brand and get girls to sign up for Pink Nation. Housing & Food said that since we weren't a student organization and we weren't a non-profit organization it would be $400 to set up outside the dorms or in the student
union. This was a huge set back for us since we were planning on using these two areas several times this year. There was a lot of communication that took place when dealing with OU Housing & Food. There were so many different people we had to communicate with, and not everyone was always available to talk. We left several messages and had to wait around for people to call us back. It was a reality check as to how it is dealing with people on a day to day basis.

We split up the other activities we had planned on doing this semester. Shay was in charge of contacting all of the different sorority houses to see if we could come to houses and give away freebees and promote the brand and Pink Nation. Shay was also in charge of contacting the store manager of the Victoria Secret store at the Sooner Legends Mall to see if we could come in soon for a shadow experience and see how a real VS store was run.

I was in charge of contacting the Homecoming Chair of this year to see if we could incorporate our philanthropy project into the homecoming activities. We learned at brand training this summer that we were in charge of a clothing drive that would assist a local Norman shelter. We knew a great way to get students to donate clothes would be to make the whole thing a competition. I know several people on the homecoming committee so I agreed to try and arrange it. I also was in charge of contacting the previous VS Pink Interns from OU to see what they had created in terms of social media. We wanted to get the previous Facebook and Twitter passwords, or create new pages all together.

Shay and I also discuss the STYLE U pictures that were due the upcoming Monday. As a part of our internship, we are in charge of taking pictures of girls at football games which show the style of girls here on campus. Our two hour meeting was just what we needed to get on the same page and organize our efforts.

I filled out another survey online concerning some skirts that VS Pink was thinking of adding to their collection. I didn't like the skirts and I didn't think my friends or I would buy them so I made sure to make that clear to the VS designers.

On Saturday I carried my camera around with me and took pictures at the tailgates and at the football game for the STYLE U. I really had fun taking the pictures and talking to the girls. Oklahoma played Utah State, and we won! Everyone was in a good mood after that, and it was really easy to get the girls to pose for the pictures. That evening I uploaded the pictures on to the VS Pink intern website. Hopefully the pictures will effectively show the VS employees how we dress here at OU for game days. The pictures are so the VS Pink designers can design clothes that will sell here on our campus.

August 23- August 29

The first week of school was hectic getting used to my new schedule, but I was really excited to get started with my Victoria Secret PINK Internship. I applied for the internship last year, and it was an intense application process. After the application was submitted, I went through one face-to-face interview on campus, and then two following phone interviews. It was so worth it though! This summer the other Victoria Secret Pink Intern, Shay, and I traveled to Ohio where the Victoria Secret Headquarters is. We were in Ohio for 3 days for internship training. The first day we mostly went through meet and greet sessions, meeting the other Victoria Secret Pink interns, and the VS employees. The second day we went through several different seminars to learn about all the different aspects of the internship. The third day we were part of several different focus groups where VS employees were able to pick our brains about new trends and our likes as well as dislikes. Shay and I were busy getting accustomed to our new school schedules, so the first week we never were able to meet in person. We spoke over the phone, planning our first brand promotional activity. On Wednesday, we set up a table on the South Oval and handed out free VS pink goodies. We also promoted the VS membership program "Pink Nation." Getting girls to sign up for Pink Nation is a huge part of the Internship. We were able to get our first new members to sign up for Pink Nation, so we were really excited. It felt like we were finally being productive.

I also received a huge shipment of 9 big boxes worth of VS Pink goodies to give away. The shipment made me really excited to continue interaction with girls on campus. It took forever to get the shipment of merchandise organized and sorted through, but now I know exactly what we have to start off working with here on campus. In the shipment I also received a pair of panties that Victoria Secret is thinking of adding to their merchandise. I was asked to evaluate the panties and fill out a survey on our online VS Pink Intern website. The VS Pink Intern website is a lot like Facebook. It's a social network for just the PINK Interns and the VS employees and merchandisers. It has taken a while to get used to the website, but I think it will make communicating a lot easier this year.

At training, they told us we were likely to receive products to try out on occasion, like the panties I received this week. The panties were the first of the products I received. I'm so excited for what we have planned next week! Shay and I were able to work through different communication issues we had this week. There was a lot of "phone tagged" being played but we exchanged schedules and plan to meet face-to-face once a week.

A very cool aspect of my internship, is that it fits perfectly into my schedule. I work on campus through the VS headquarters in Ohio. It takes a lot of discipline because I don't have a boss that I report to everyday. However, I do communicate with the VS headquarters several different times a week, and it's important that I document everything I do via pictures. It's important for me to show the pictures to the VS headquarters so they can monitor my progress here on campus. My hours are diverse for every day of every week because I am working primarily on my own schedule. I am going to try and work out a similar schedule for every week so it's easier for me to stay on task. However, I'm great with time management and I'm looking forward to having a lot of independence with this internship.
