September 20 - September 26

This week Shay and I have been working on getting our philanthropy project together. Our "Happy Project", as we've been told to call it, is a clothing drive for a local Norman shelter. We've been communicating with VS headquarters trying to figure out exactly what shelter we're going to donate our clothes too. We've contacted several different shelters and organizations, and we've been trying to iron out all the details. Ideally, we'd like to incorporate our Happy Project into this year's Homecoming festivities. We've been trying to contact the head of this year's Homecoming, but it's been difficult. We also have been in contact Student Life since Homecoming is an OU sponsored event. This week I also have been working on transferring girls' information from the forms they filled out by hand to the Pink Nation sign up online form. Transferring the information isn't difficult, it's just time consuming and tedious. I've continued with surveys and blogs on the VS PINK Intern website, just like the other weeks. A huge part of this internship is being a part of focus groups and helping VS merchandisers come up with new and innovative ideas for the new VS PINK collections. Next week we have more promotional events with different student groups. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and getting more girls to sign up for Pink Nation. This week i've learned the importance of following up. We have had several shelters and individuals not respond to our emails. I have gotten experience with how to follow up with people tactfully, and not in an annoying way.

September 13- September 19

This week was really hectic! We've been organizing promotional events with the sorority houses here at OU. We set up times to go promote VS PINK with 4 different houses for the week, but only 3 confirmed with us when we sent out confirmation emails the day before the events.
On Monday and Tuesday we went to the Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Delta Delta and Alpha Chi Omega sorority houses. We set up laptops and helped the girls join "Pink Nation." We also had free giveaways for the girls as encouragement to sign up for Pink Nation. While the girls were using the laptops or giving us their information we just talked to them about the brand and what the brand stands for. It was great just being able to interact with the different types of girls and promote the VS PINK brand. We took pictures at the different events and uploaded them onto the VS PINK Intern website, to show the VS employees our work here on campus.
We learned the importance of following up, and confirming appointments. We also learned how easy it is to just talk to people about the company you represent, if you're well prepared. Shay and I both are knowledgable about VS PINK and the Pink Nation membership program, and it really paid off. Girls had a lot of questions and it would of been embarrassing if we weren't well prepared.
This week I also blogged and filled out different surveys on VS PINK Intern website. The surveys were about specific Oklahoma merchandise that wasn't selling like the VS merchandisers had hoped it would of. I also sent emails back and forth with Caroline, with our first ideas for plans for the VS fashion show viewing party that Shay and I will be hosting later this semester.

September 6-September 12

The Monday this week was Labor Day, and it was a great three-day weekend. I wasn't super busy with my internship this week because we were mostly getting things ready for events next week. We are scheduled to go to four different sorority houses and give presentation describing and promoting Pink Nation. Shay did a great job of getting in touch with the presidents of the sororities and getting times set up.
Shay and I had several different long phone conversations getting the logistics for the promotional events ready. We discussed what time we would meet, the freebees we would give away, how we would go about getting girls to sign up, and what we would say when we got to the sorority houses.
I exchanged many emails with Caroline, the VS Pink employee who is in charge on the VS Pink internship program. Caroline sends us emails almost everyday updating us on new ways to get girls to sign up for Pink Nation, as well as new surveys that have come out and new Pink Nation deals to give as incentives to get girls to sign up. I also exchanged several different emails with the OU Homecoming chair in attempts to get our clothing drive to be a part of the homecoming activities. So far, things seem optimistic. With a university as large as Oklahoma, there were a lot of different people we needed to get to OK our collaboration.
I took the second round of STYLE U pictures this week. We played Florida State, and we knew it was going to be a huge game and a ton of fans were going to come out and support the Sooners. This was great for us, it gave us a ton of girls to choose from for the pictures and everyone was so excited for the game. This made our job so much more fun.
I've really enjoyed my work with VS so far. I've learned a lot of small communicational skills with internal and external publics. I've learned the importance of sending emails and communicating openly with those who are working with me. The help from Shay and Caroline has been so great and I wouldn't be able to handle all of the work without them. I've also learned through the STYLE U pictures that approaching people is so much easier if you can be optimistic and keep smiling. They will be so much more likely to assist in whatever you need.

August 30-September 5

This week Shay and I met on Wednesday afternoon for a while. We discussed many different things we have coming up. We tried to contact Housing & Food to see if we could set up a table outside of the dorm and cafeteria to promote the VS Pink brand and get girls to sign up for Pink Nation. Housing & Food said that since we weren't a student organization and we weren't a non-profit organization it would be $400 to set up outside the dorms or in the student
union. This was a huge set back for us since we were planning on using these two areas several times this year. There was a lot of communication that took place when dealing with OU Housing & Food. There were so many different people we had to communicate with, and not everyone was always available to talk. We left several messages and had to wait around for people to call us back. It was a reality check as to how it is dealing with people on a day to day basis.

We split up the other activities we had planned on doing this semester. Shay was in charge of contacting all of the different sorority houses to see if we could come to houses and give away freebees and promote the brand and Pink Nation. Shay was also in charge of contacting the store manager of the Victoria Secret store at the Sooner Legends Mall to see if we could come in soon for a shadow experience and see how a real VS store was run.

I was in charge of contacting the Homecoming Chair of this year to see if we could incorporate our philanthropy project into the homecoming activities. We learned at brand training this summer that we were in charge of a clothing drive that would assist a local Norman shelter. We knew a great way to get students to donate clothes would be to make the whole thing a competition. I know several people on the homecoming committee so I agreed to try and arrange it. I also was in charge of contacting the previous VS Pink Interns from OU to see what they had created in terms of social media. We wanted to get the previous Facebook and Twitter passwords, or create new pages all together.

Shay and I also discuss the STYLE U pictures that were due the upcoming Monday. As a part of our internship, we are in charge of taking pictures of girls at football games which show the style of girls here on campus. Our two hour meeting was just what we needed to get on the same page and organize our efforts.

I filled out another survey online concerning some skirts that VS Pink was thinking of adding to their collection. I didn't like the skirts and I didn't think my friends or I would buy them so I made sure to make that clear to the VS designers.

On Saturday I carried my camera around with me and took pictures at the tailgates and at the football game for the STYLE U. I really had fun taking the pictures and talking to the girls. Oklahoma played Utah State, and we won! Everyone was in a good mood after that, and it was really easy to get the girls to pose for the pictures. That evening I uploaded the pictures on to the VS Pink intern website. Hopefully the pictures will effectively show the VS employees how we dress here at OU for game days. The pictures are so the VS Pink designers can design clothes that will sell here on our campus.

August 23- August 29

The first week of school was hectic getting used to my new schedule, but I was really excited to get started with my Victoria Secret PINK Internship. I applied for the internship last year, and it was an intense application process. After the application was submitted, I went through one face-to-face interview on campus, and then two following phone interviews. It was so worth it though! This summer the other Victoria Secret Pink Intern, Shay, and I traveled to Ohio where the Victoria Secret Headquarters is. We were in Ohio for 3 days for internship training. The first day we mostly went through meet and greet sessions, meeting the other Victoria Secret Pink interns, and the VS employees. The second day we went through several different seminars to learn about all the different aspects of the internship. The third day we were part of several different focus groups where VS employees were able to pick our brains about new trends and our likes as well as dislikes. Shay and I were busy getting accustomed to our new school schedules, so the first week we never were able to meet in person. We spoke over the phone, planning our first brand promotional activity. On Wednesday, we set up a table on the South Oval and handed out free VS pink goodies. We also promoted the VS membership program "Pink Nation." Getting girls to sign up for Pink Nation is a huge part of the Internship. We were able to get our first new members to sign up for Pink Nation, so we were really excited. It felt like we were finally being productive.

I also received a huge shipment of 9 big boxes worth of VS Pink goodies to give away. The shipment made me really excited to continue interaction with girls on campus. It took forever to get the shipment of merchandise organized and sorted through, but now I know exactly what we have to start off working with here on campus. In the shipment I also received a pair of panties that Victoria Secret is thinking of adding to their merchandise. I was asked to evaluate the panties and fill out a survey on our online VS Pink Intern website. The VS Pink Intern website is a lot like Facebook. It's a social network for just the PINK Interns and the VS employees and merchandisers. It has taken a while to get used to the website, but I think it will make communicating a lot easier this year.

At training, they told us we were likely to receive products to try out on occasion, like the panties I received this week. The panties were the first of the products I received. I'm so excited for what we have planned next week! Shay and I were able to work through different communication issues we had this week. There was a lot of "phone tagged" being played but we exchanged schedules and plan to meet face-to-face once a week.

A very cool aspect of my internship, is that it fits perfectly into my schedule. I work on campus through the VS headquarters in Ohio. It takes a lot of discipline because I don't have a boss that I report to everyday. However, I do communicate with the VS headquarters several different times a week, and it's important that I document everything I do via pictures. It's important for me to show the pictures to the VS headquarters so they can monitor my progress here on campus. My hours are diverse for every day of every week because I am working primarily on my own schedule. I am going to try and work out a similar schedule for every week so it's easier for me to stay on task. However, I'm great with time management and I'm looking forward to having a lot of independence with this internship.
